Semester at sea: 10 countries in 104 days.

CubaBetsy LaCroix's classroom was the world—she journeyed to ten countries during her semester. Her itinerary included the Bahamas, Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, Tanzania, India, Vietnam, China, Korea, and Japan. Stays in countries varied from four to six days, and the sailing time between each country varied as well. The longest voyage was 12 days and the shortest was a single day.

There were approximately 1000 people on her ship, including 635 students, 17 senior adult passengers, and about 35 faculty members.

She attended classes while at sea and then was free to experience each country in any way she wanted. Every student took a core class called Global Studies, where they were taught about the countries' history, customs, geography, politics, and current issues before they arrived.
