Requirements and Core Courses |

—Bachelor of arts in French Majors and prospective majors are expected to spend at least one semester abroad, living in the target culture and enhancing their fluency in the language. Many accredited study-abroad programs are available; students should work with their advisors in the selection of a program. Note: Students preparing to teach should visit the Department of Teaching and Learning online or see its information in the Course Catalog for certification requirements. Those who intend to major in foreign languages and education should begin the study of the major language in the first year; studies toward any language taken as a minor should start no later than the beginning of the second year. Students should consult the General Catalog for course planning and must meet course requirements as outlined in the General Catalog in order to graduate. Strengths of the Program
- WSU’s Language Learning Resource Center in Thompson Hall provides foreign language students access to 13 Windows 2000 and six Macintosh computers, plus stations for video and audio tape use.
- WSU’s program includes the study of literature, film, and traditions of foreign cultures to deepen students’ intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and comprehension skills.
- The department offers specialized language courses for students in business, the social sciences, engineering, and the sciences.
