International Area Studies

The International Area Studies area of the General Studies Program is for students who have interests that are both international and interdisciplinary. Students may choose between these major concentrations: Latin American Studies, German Area Studies, and French Area Studies. (See Asian Studies and Russian Area Studies for information on these majors.)

Requirements and Core Courses

—Bachelor of Arts in Humanities with an International Area Studies Focus

Students who wish to earn a bachelor of arts in humanities with a focus in international area studies will devise an approved, coherent program of study with the coordinator and a designated advisor who is a specialist in the student’s area of interest. The program of study must fulfill an academic or career goal, include prerequisites consistent with 300-400 level major course work, satisfy general education requirements (GERs) and any additional requirements for the College of Liberal Arts, and include language proficiency appropriate to the cultural area. The area studies major will consist of a minimum of 40 credits. No course in which C- or lower is earned will be counted toward the major. NOTE: Students must meet course requirements outlined in the General Catalog to graduate.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Students can apply for University-level scholarships and more than $50,000 in scholarships awarded by the College of Liberal Arts.
