Academics & Majors

Just a few of WSU's undergraduate research experiences.

Here are only some of the research projects Washington State University undergraduates have done.

Psychology: Vian Yousify worked with David Rector's sleep lab for two years, deeply involved with work on how the brain is organized and how its trillions of cells coordinate their actions to create a perceiving, reflecting, inventing human mind. She also attended an annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.

Biochemistry: Bracken Armstrong worked with Sunny Zhou for two years. He received the Center for Integrated Biotechnology Undergraduate Fellowship for Research for his studies on protein modification and oxidation detection by way of mass spectroscopy. Other research by Bracken has implications in fighting cancer and bacterial infections.

Engineering: Jon Winterstein worked with Grant Norton on microscopic "tin whisker growth" that causes short circuits in electronic components which can cause failure in, for example, communications satellites. His senior thesis work looked for ways to prevent this costly problem.

Physics: John Leraas worked with Tom Dickinson in his lab on the laser absorption and ablation of inorganic materials.
