I'm in Sydney!
I've only been in Australia for 6 days and I love it. On the 16th I arrived in Melbourne (pronounced Melburn), where we stayed for 5 days to view the city. On the 20th we finally flew to Sydney where I have the best studio room. It has a refrigerator and a microwave, my own bathroom, a large, large closet, a desk and a window view. I’m on the 4th floor, which is the top floor, which I love. Laundry is 15 bucks for two loads, how crazy is that.
The Australians don’t see to many African Americans or black people for that matter and are loving me. They can’t understand me when I talk. It’s so weird to think of myself as a foreigner and not have people understand me because I have an accent.
The sun is great but, as you probably already know, Sydney is right in the center of the hole in the ozone layer so the sun comes directly down. I went out in the sun with no sun block and burnt in like 10 minutes. So I’ve been wearing sun screen ever since.
I miss my friends and family it kind of sucks to be out of my comfort zone, but it’s good to experience being independent. I’m loving it here, I just wish you all were here. School starts on the 7th of March and I’m excited to start. The campus is huge and the buildings look like castles from the 1800s.
Spring break.
I did spring break in the Whitsunday Islands. It is a 4-hour plane ride north of Sydney. Some friends and I went sailing around the islands on a 24-person boat for 3 days and 3 nights. After the sailing, Manorah, Jackie, and I went to one of the islands called South Mole for one night. On South Mole we went hiking, which is where we got awesome views of the island. This was the best spring break I've ever had. |
