Frequently asked questions.
What steps must my student take to be invited to this scholarship event?
To be considered, your student must take the following steps by January 31:
- Complete an undergraduate application for admission and send it with official SAT or ACT scores and high school transcripts.
- Complete the University's academic scholarship application. You'll find both the scholarship application and the application for admission at www.apply.wsu.edu.
- Your student is strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), so that he or she may be considered for other financial aid opportunities.
- Be accepted to WSU.
As Washington State University begins mailing acceptance letters in December, invitations to this event will also begin to go out to qualified students.
Registration is free for qualifying students who are residents of Washington state and will be entering their freshman year of college, but space is limited.
If my student is invited, is a spot at the event guaranteed?
Students who have been invited to this event can reserve their spots on a first-come, first-served basis. We strive to provide for everyone who wants to attend, but space is limited.
What is the format of this event?
The Future Cougars of Color program has elected to go with an interview and group activity-type format to determine which students will be receiving the various levels of scholarships.
These particular offerings, while notable, are only one way in which students may be rewarded for their academic success. There are many other scholarships available to academically talented students at Washington State University. To learn more about the full range of scholarship opportunities at WSU, visit www.wsu.edu/scholarships.
Will my student have to pay anything to participate in this event?
Registration is free for qualifying students. Attendees stay for free in a residence hall on campus or in a hotel near campus during the event. All students will share a double room with another same-gendered participant. The University will provide meals at the event.
Will transportation be available to and from this event?
We'll take care of travel for your student. Just meet our Enrollment Counselors at one of the central locations across the state. We'll bring your student to Pullman and back home after the event.
May I attend this event with my student?
For logistical reasons, this is a student-only event. However, you can be assured that University staff will be readily available during the event to help attending students in any way they might require.
If you would like to visit campus with your student, there are many other opportunities throughout the school year. To take advantage of one of these opportunities, see our student visits Web site or call Visitation Programs at 509-335-7345.
What should my student bring/wear?
Your student only needs to bring the basics to this event (clothes, toiletries, etc.). There will be an opportunity to use the workout facilities, so students who are interested should bring a set of workout clothes. Students should dress in school-appropriate attire.
Finally, while there is no cost for attending this event and all the meals will be provided, there will be opportunities for activities like visiting the campus book store, etc., so you may consider sending some spending money with your student for souvenirs.
What happens if my student is unable to attend this event?
In order to qualify for these particular scholarships, students must attend this event.
However, it should be noted that there are many other scholarships available to academically talented students at Washington State University. You can find out more about the University's many scholarship opportunities by visiting www.wsu.edu/scholarships.
There are also many other opportunities to visit campus throughout the school year. To take advantage of one of these opportunities, see our student visits Web site or call Visitation Programs at 509-335-7345.
