WSU welcomes National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.

Receive full tuition for up to four years of undergraduate studies.

For Washington residents, this award is valued at more than $30,000 total (based on current in-state tuition rates for 2009-2010).*

For students from outside the state of Washington, the award value is approximately $75,000 total (based on current non-resident tuition rates for 2009-2010).*

Eligibility
  • Based on student being identified as a semifinalist by the National Merit Corporation.
  • Student must enroll as a full-time freshman student (first time enrollment) on the Pullman campus beginning fall 2010 (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester).
Renewability
  • Student must maintain a 3.20 WSU cumulative grade point average.
  • Complete 24 graded credit hours per academic year (fall/spring semesters only).
  • Remain enrolled full-time on the Pullman campus.

National Merit Corporation will ask you to indicate your first college choice. When you list Washington State University as your first college choice, we will confirm your national Merit Scholarship.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

We use the FAFSA results to see if you are eligible for grants, work-study, and loans. It also impacts how we award need-based scholarships and can help you qualify for other sources of aid such as affordable student loans. Fill out the application between January 1 and February 15 at the FAFSA site.

Important scholarship details
  • You must enroll at WSU in the fall semester following your high school graduation in order to take advantage of this scholarship.
  • This scholarship could be the first of many scholarships that you benefit from. However, the National Merit Scholarship cannot be combined with a Regents Scholar award, the University Achievement Award, or the Cougar Academic Award at WSU.
  • If you leave the University, check WSU readmission requirements. To retain this scholarship, you must request a scholarship deferment from the Office of Scholarship Services prior to your enrollment discontinuation.
