You don't just learn Russian with this award-winning linguist, you live it.

Russian becomes more than a foreign language when Birgitta Ingemanson, associate professor of foreign languages, brings it to life and takes you beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
You benefit from her extensive research on Russian culture and personal anecdotes about her passion. Always looking for ways to expand learning opportunities, she was a key figure in organizing the exchange program between WSU and Far Eastern State University in Vladivostok, Russia.
This winner of the May 2003 Honors Faculty Award emphasizes the personal and human aspects of her subject. She encourages you to explore the commonalities between cultures, and inspires you to connect with other students in her classes. Personal contact is an essential element of Dr. Ingemanson’s classroom, where you sit in a circle with your fellow students and your professor. “I like to be able to sit with the students,” she says. “I like to see their faces, and I like the fact that they can see each other.”
