This renowned researcher welcomes your contributions.

Timothy Kohler, Regents Professor of anthropology, says, “I try to emphasize that scientific understanding is provisional and subject to improvement—maybe by my students!"
Dr. Kohler focuses on giving you hands-on experiences during archaeological field school sessions. You learn, touch, and see as much as you can about the past. In the classroom, this leading researcher, who has directed excavations in New Mexico and Colorado, guides you to an understanding of changes in social and cultural patterns, opportunities to replicate and analyze stone tools, and in-depth information about the prehistory of western North America.
Dr. Kohler says, “The most creative professionals are those who can continue to bring a sense of play to their work. I try to communicate to students how much fun research is, and how satisfying it can be to find and explain patterning in the archaeological record.”
The July 2005 issue of Scientific American magazine highlights his research, which combines traditional archaeological methods with high-tech tools that include computer modeling and imaging. His research team includes WSU students as well as Colorado archaeologists.
